ColorJet, India’s largest digital inkjet printer manufacturer, engaged in an exclusive interview with Imaging Solution Magazine, Mr. Aditya Dadu, Associate Vice President and Business Head of ColorJet Group shares insights on the evolving signage industry, sustainability initiatives, and the importance of collaboration among stakeholders.

Could you share your journey in the signage industry over the past decade?

I’ve been in business for ten years now, and during this time, I’ve witnessed significant evolution within the signage industry. I see it as an upcoming market with immense potential. I firmly believe that the next phase of growth will stem from increased collaboration and knowledge sharing among three key stakeholders: brands, external service providers (ESPs), and machinery or technology providers.

Can you elaborate on how you envision this collaboration taking shape?

I think establishing a platform for brainstorming and exchanging information across these verticals can tremendously benefit all involved. By doing so, we can foster a more cohesive approach to addressing the industry’s challenges and advancing growth. At ColorJet, we are committed to bringing more sustainable solutions to the outdoor signage sector, which is crucial given the current emphasis on environmental responsibility.

What eco-friendly initiatives is ColorJet pursuing for outdoor signage?

We’re developing special media that can be printed with eco-friendly inks, catering to brands that are increasingly seeking sustainable solutions. Many of these companies want to comply with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria and take tangible actions against climate change. So, our focus is on creating these sustainable solutions for outdoor signage.

How do you ensure brands are aware of the capabilities of your technology?

Education is key. We work on informing brands about the advanced capabilities of our machinery. By leveraging technological advancements like resins and UV printing, we can help brands expand their possibilities. At ColorJet, we’ve established the ColorJet Training Academy, which conducts three types of training: sales training for our internal sales team, training for our service engineers, and operator training programs for our customers. We travel to different cities to ensure operators can maximize the potential of their machines and the built-in software.

Can you discuss ColorJet’s commitment to research and development?

We prioritize investing in R&D to develop new technologies. Our goal is not just to follow industry trends but to innovate and be at the forefront of product development. Furthermore, we focus heavily on application-side development to bridge the gap between brands and PSP (print service provider) owners. We’re creating more applications that can be derived from existing printers and assets, enhancing their utility.

How does the Indian market compare to international markets in terms of challenges and opportunities?

The Indian market presents unique challenges. Customers often demand the best pricing alongside top-quality output, which is a constant hurdle for us as a technology partner. Conversely, in international markets, customers tend to pay higher premiums for quality without negotiating as aggressively on price. We’ve seen positive responses in our UV machine range internationally, particularly the UV Verb Mini, where we’ve sold numerous containers of machines to emerging signage markets.

What strategies is ColorJet implementing in terms of after-sales service?

We’re developing robust technology support systems for our after-sales team. Our in-house software development team is creating tools that enable service personnel to monitor and analyze their performance in real-time. This empowers our team to deliver better service and exceed customer expectations, which is crucial in our industry.

What message would you like to share with aspiring professionals in the signage industry?

My message is simple: if you’re passionate about this industry, there’s immense potential for you to make your mark and achieve significant growth. Your enthusiasm will not only propel your career but also contribute to the overall profitability and innovation of the company. Embrace the challenges, keep learning, and strive to be a part of this evolving market.
