In this issue, we are covering a story on the industry reactions to the intended anti-dumping duty by the government on the mono-toner cartridges and its consequences. The government has already imposed the Basic Customs Duty (BCD) which is 11% on the mono-toner cartridges, but once anti-dumping comes into force (where the actual date not yet announced), the prices of the imported mono-toner cartridges will see a substantial increase. This intended increase is meant to aid the domestic manufacturing of cartridges and discourage imports. However, a majority of the players in the imaging industry believe that the domestic cartridges manufacturers could hardly meet 10% of the total demand from the Indian market and for the rest 90%, the market has to depend on imports. Imposition of anti-dumping duty at this stage will only put extra burden on the importers, sellers and ultimately on the end customers. Next factor that is set to push up prices of the imported cartridges is the steep decline of INR vs USD rate.
