Industry Expresses Divided Opinions on the Impending Anti-Dumping Duty (ADD) on the Mono-Toner Cartridges

The imposition of anti-dumping duty (ADD) on the imported mono-toner cartridges seems imminent. This month’s issue covers the opinions of the industry players on ADD, including those of mono-toner cartridges manufacturers, importers and the brands who solely depend on the imported cartridges. The cartridge manufacturers feel ADD is good as it will encourage domestic manufacturing, create employment to the local people and prevent the flight of foreign currency, though domestic manufacturing can face some challenges in the short run.

On other hand, those who import and those who depend on the imported cartridges feel that the domestic manufacturers could meet only 10% of the total demand so imports are unavoidable and the ADD will only increase the prices of the imported cartridges which will ultimately place the burden on the end customers.

The prevailing situation calls for preparedness and strategic inventory planning particularly for those who depend on imports. Once ADD is implemented, the prices of the mono-toner cartridges are certain to rise, and those who plan early and adapt will be better positioned to be safe and stay in competition.
