Premier Computers: Navigating Success and Innovation in the Printer Spare Parts Industry

Premier Computers is one of the most trusted providers of a large array of toner cartridges, cartridge parts, laser printer parts, dot matrix parts, plotter parts and inkjet printer parts, and Teflon sleeves under their brand name PRM. In an interaction with Imaging Solution magazine, Mr. Devansh Sanghavi, Chief Operating Officer of Premier Computers shares insights on growth, trends, and future plans for the PRM brand.

1. How did your brand / company fare in the last one year (June 2023 – June 2024) in general? What special products did you launch and how did they do?

Over the past year, Premier Computers has continued to see strong growth and performance for our PRM brand of printer spare parts. Despite some broader economic challenges, our business has managed to thrive and expand our market presence across India.

Some of the key highlights from the last 12 months include:

•          Increased our product depth to exhibit an extensive collection in toner cartridges and pressure rollers. For toner cartridges, we’ve launched a variety of high yield toner cartridges which offer up to 2x more page yield compared to standard options. All our new product offerings have been extremely well-received by our customers.

•          Expanded our distribution network to reach over tens of authorized dealers and hundreds of retailers across 20+ states in India. This has significantly increased the accessibility and availability of our PRM products nationwide.

•          Invested in new warehousing and logistics infrastructure to improve our supply chain efficiency and reduce delivery times for customers. This has helped us better meet the growing demand for our parts.

•          Continued to see double-digit year-over-year growth in both revenue and profitability for the PRM brand, outpacing the overall printer accessories market in India.

Overall, it’s been a very successful and productive year for Premier Computers. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made in strengthening the PRM brand and solidifying our position as a leading provider of high-quality and affordable printer spare parts in the Indian market.

2. What technological and market trends did you notice in the last 1 year with reference to the products you are dealing with?

Over the past 12 months, we’ve observed a few key technological and market trends that have impacted the printer spare parts industry in India:

•          Increasing shift towards more advanced, smart printer models with integrated connectivity and cloud-based features. This has driven demand for compatible spare parts that can work seamlessly with these newer printer types

•          Advancements in printer component design and manufacturing, allowing for higher reliability, longer lifespan, and improved performance of spare parts

•          Heightened price sensitivity among consumers, leading to greater demand for affordable, third-party printer accessories compared to expensive OEM parts.

3. What has been your annual growth rate? What challenges do you face how do you overcome them?

Over the past year, Premier Computers has maintained a strong annual growth rate of approximately 20%. This is a testament to the increasing demand for our high-quality and affordable products across the Indian market.

Some of the key challenges we’ve faced and how we’ve overcome them include:

•          Fluctuating import costs and tariffs on components sourced from China, which can impact our profit margins. We’ve diversified our supplier base and negotiated better terms to mitigate the impact of these cost increases

•          Counterfeit/ poor quality products entering the market, which can undermine consumer trust. We’ve implemented stricter quality controls, product serialization, and enhanced anti-counterfeiting measures to protect the integrity of the PRM brand.

We’re also investing deeply in continuous innovation in our product portfolio to stay ahead of market trends and offer enhanced value to customers

4. From which countries do you import and how comfortable are you with your imports?

We primarily import our printer spare parts from China. China has been our main sourcing market due to the country’s well-established manufacturing capabilities, competitive pricing, and the availability of a wide range of high-quality components for the printer accessories industry. We are quite comfortable and confident with our import operations from China for a few key reasons:

1. Long-standing relationships with our supplier network: We have developed strong, trusted partnerships with our Chinese manufacturing partners over the years. Many of these relationships go back a couple of decades or more, allowing us to ensure reliable supply, consistent quality, and favourable commercial terms.

2. Rigorous quality control processes: We have implemented stringent quality assurance measures throughout the import process. This includes conducting thorough inspections at the manufacturing facilities, as well as testing samples upon arrival in India to validate adherence to our specifications.

3. Diversified supplier base: While China remains our primary import source, we have strategically diversified our supplier network within the country. This helps mitigate any risks related to over-dependence on a single manufacturer or region.

5. What new products and solutions do you plan to launch in the remainder of 2024?

In the coming year, Premier Computers is excited to introduce several new and innovative products under our brand portfolio. We are confident that these new offerings will further solidify Premier Computers’ position as a leading provider of premium-quality and innovative printer spare parts and accessories in the Indian market.

1. PRM Gold Premium Toner Cartridges:

•          We are launching a new premium toner cartridge line called PRM Gold, which will cater to the high-end printer market segment. These are manufactured using the highest quality materials and components, offering an OEM-like shell and performance

•          These cartridges are designed to provide superior page yield, print quality, and reliability compared to standard toner options currently available. PRM Gold is the perfect solution for business and professional users who demand the best-in-class printing experience at a very reasonable price

PRM Inkjet Inks:

•          Recognizing the growing demand for versatile printing solutions, we are expanding our product range to include a line of PRM-branded inkjet inks.

•          In addition to standard office printing, the PRM inkjet inks will also be suitable for specialty applications such as DTF (Direct to Fabric) printing for the textile industry

6. Where do you expect your brand to be by the end of 2025?

By the end of 2025, we envision the PRM brand to be firmly established as a leading provider of high-quality, affordable printer spare parts and accessories in the Indian market. Our focus will remain on delivering exceptional value to our customers. We are looking to expand our market share through an innovative product portfolio with a deep focus on providing the best value to our customers.
