—Part 4 of a series identifying what distributors look for most from a manufacturer and supplier.
Buyers and distributors must change how they purchase their supplies from manufacturers to remain competitive.
More and more consumers, retailers, and wholesalers are purchasing online. According to research conducted by Analytic Steps, most of the supply chain says that quality and price are traditionally what matter most when purchasing. Yet, over one-third of those surveyed say they have less free time now than five years ago, and 83 percent of respondents believe convenience is now more crucial when it comes to purchasing.
Wholesale and distributor buyers now say they are ready to spend more if it means their purchase will be more convenient. Wholesalers say that convenience translates into several tangible benefits that significantly impact their operations’ efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and overall success.
There are seven key factors buyers are looking for when it comes to convenience:
- Streamlined Operations: consolidating procurement with one supplier simplifies purchasing, reduces the complexity of managing multiple relationships, and lowers administrative costs, leading to time savings.
- Inventory Management: A one-stop shop helps wholesalers and other buyers coordinate deliveries, track stock, and anticipate restocking needs, reducing stockouts and overstocking.
- Cost Savings: Sourcing from one supplier allows wholesalers to negotiate better pricing and terms, gain discounts, and reduce shipping costs, leading to overall savings.
- Product Compatibility: Sourcing printers, toners, inks, and papers from a single manufacturer ensures that these quality products are designed to work together consistently and seamlessly. Such compatibility minimizes issues related to product performance, such as printer jams or poor print quality, reducing returns and increasing customer satisfaction.
- Logistics Efficiency: Coordinated deliveries from one manufacturer reduce shipment tracking and receiving burdens, streamline the receiving process, and enhance timely customer demand fulfilment.
- Customer Satisfaction: convenience leads to better service for retailers and their end-user customers when there is consistent quality, reliable availability, and efficient logistics, which in turn builds trust and encourages repeat business.
- After-Sales Support: operational efficiency and customer satisfaction are enhanced when the one-stop shop supplier provides quick and effective comprehensive after-sales support (technical assistance, product training, and warranty services).
