Canon has announced that its hybrid genius, Canon EOS R5 C is now Netflix-approved. Canon announced that version 1.0.3.1 firmware elevates the overall image quality and camera operability for content captured by filmmakers and creators for OTT using the EOS R5 C.

EOS R5 C is Canon’s eighth addition to its lineup of Cinema EOS cameras approved for use on Netflix productions. With a commitment to target growing imaging segments and especially the Indian cinema industry, other Canon cameras on the Netflix authorised list include EOS R5, EOS C500 Mark II, EOS C300 Mark III, EOS C70, EOS C300 Mark II, EOS C700 FF, EOS C700 and the EOS C500.
Despite being the first Canon camera to provide internal 8K (8192×4320) 60P Cinema RAW Light recording, the EOS R5C was not approved by Netflix. The approved camera list presents cameras that adhere to the rules defined by Netflix. The company says that “to help creatives produce their best work and create compelling visual experiences for our audience, Netflix requires 90% of a program’s final total runtime to be captured on approved cameras” using a series of capture requirements announced on the Netflix website. Netflix also notes that “for nonfiction content, this threshold may be more flexible.”

Canon EOS R5 C stands true to the company’s vision of bringing innovative and industry-leading digital imaging solutions with a perfect amalgamation of cinema-quality video and high-range still image captures. Being Canon’s first camera to provide internal 8K 60P Cinema RAW Light recording, EOS R5 C maintains the aesthetics of RAW video while reducing file size backed by an internal cooling system for continuous internal recording in different file formats. Equipped with a 45 MP full-frame CMOS sensor, the hybrid imaging marvel generates less noise and creates a shallower depth of field. EOS R5 C is also equipped with 4K/120P video recording, and HDR support with HLG and PQ formats.
