In an interaction with the Imaging Solution magazine, Mr. Shashank Ruiwale, President of Indigo Prints Smart Pvt Ltd, an imaging industry veteran with over 30 years of experience, shares about their company principles, brand policy, and future plans. Indigo Prints, founded in 2008 in Mumbai, is a leading manufacturer, supplier, exporter, importer, and trader of a wide range of printer consumables under the brand name Formujet.
Mr. Shashank Ruiwale comments, “For Formujet, OEM-quality is the benchmark and we have a wide range of over 2000 products in our portfolio to meet the needs of different types of printers and users. We put in continuous efforts to upgrade the quality of our products in terms of consistency, durability, and page yield. Our fundamental principle is to provide the best quality, consistency, and customer satisfaction at reasonable prices. In addition, we continuously address the concerns of our partners and customers at different levels. Our product portfolio can be divided into 4 verticals in the market—office digital printing, digital photo printing, textile printing, and gifting & novelties. Due to the increasing penetration of PCs, home printers, etc, there has been tremendous growth in the size of printer consumables market in India, so we see a lot of opportunities for now and for future for the imaging consumables.”
Formujet’s product range includes toner cartridges for printers and copiers, laserjet & copier toner powders, inkjet inks, sublimation inks, photo inks, Continuous Ink Supply Systems (CISS), industrial inkjet printing products, refillable cartridges, compatible inkjet cartridges, ink tank system, jumbo cartridges, large format printer inks, large format printer cartridges, vacuum toner cleaning machines, inkjet cartridge refilling machines, inkjet accessory kit, laserjet component tray, dot matrix ribbon ink, dot-matrix Printer ribbons and refills packs, OPC drums, doctor blades, sublimation heat-press, ID cards and dragon sheets, PVC inkjet sheets, etc.
About the Make in India program, Mr. Shashank Ruiwale elaborates, “Make in India is a ground-breaking initiative by the government of India which enables domestic players to set up manufacturing plants in India. This will definitely reduce our dependence on imports and will make India self-reliant. So far, we have been heavily depending on everything in printing supplies on imports from China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, etc. Further, domestic manufacturing will provide employment for millions of local people. Make in India is a great opportunity for the imaging industry entrepreneurs. There are multiple examples of manufacturing success stories in this industry. We have been manufacturing some of our products in India since 1990 for which we have made large investments in molds and machines. In the future, we are planning to manufacture more products in India and reduce imports.”
Talking about the trends and challenges in the imaging industry, Mr. Shashank Ruiwale comments, “The demand for new products in the aftermarket industry is often driven by the OEMs. Whenever OEMs release new models, we have to develop consumables needed for those models. The opportunity also comes from the newly invented applications. For example, so far, toners have been used only for printing in offices and by jobbers, but now toners are also being used in the textile and ceramic industries. So I would say the opportunities are continuously growing. One challenge in the market is that the users are unable to understand and identify the right quality and features of the products for their requirements. Sometimes even OEMs are misleading the customers by giving only the information that will help the sale of their own products. We must try to educate the end-users on the quality aspects and how to identify the right products for their requirements.”
Formujet has a well-developed manufacturing factory and warehouse and ensures timely delivery backed by a wide distribution network. Formujet is supported by state-of-the-art R&D and sales departments manned by qualified, well-trained, and experienced engineering professionals to provide the latest technology products and services to the partners and the end-users. About their future plans, Mr. Shashank Ruiwale concludes, “We keep on adding new products in line with the changing market needs and demands. We have been among the top compatible brands in India and we will maintain that position in the coming years. My message to the industry is that all the players should focus on providing great quality; quality brings sustainability to their business. Focus more on competing with OEMs rather than get into the petty price wars for short-term gains.”
