Epson EcoTank Printer Development Trends
According to Epson, 80 million EcoTank printers were sold worldwide from Q4 2010 to Q1 2023 shipments. And it has maintained rapid growth, placing Epson in first place globally for bulk ink tank printer shipments.
The Evolution of Epson EcoTank Printers and Customers Concerns
In 2011, Epson introduced the EcoTank L121 (*the ink bottle model is Epson 664) series printers using the traditional squeezing ink refilling method. In 2017, Epson introduced the EcoTank ET-2820 (*the ink bottle model is Epson 104) series printers. This more recent lineup adopts new technology with automated ink refilling. However, the old and new ink bottles are not interchangeable due to changes in the printer and the ink bottle structure.
Despite this, in terms of printer installed base, squeeze-fill ink bottle printers such as the Epson EcoTank L121 still account for a significant, albeit smaller, portion of the market. Therefore, distributors must stock various types of ink bottles to meet different market demands. That could lead to a massive inventory build-up.
