Mr. David Gibbons, Director of International Communication at Comexposium Recycling Times (C-RT) and a prominent figure in the global printer and imaging supplies sector, has retired with effect from December 20, 2024. After a career spanning more than three decades, Gibbons plans to continue contributing to the industry through consultancy services.
Mr. Swapan Roy, Founder & Editor-in-Chief of Imaging Solution, shared, “Our partnership with Mr. Gibbons and RTMWorld & CR-T (Comexposium Recycling Times) spans over a decade of fruitful collaboration. Throughout this journey, we’ve had the privilege of organizing numerous events together, creating opportunities to learn, share, and grow. Mr. Gibbons was instrumental in solidifying the strong bond between RTMWorld, CR-T, and Imaging Solution. A true giant in the global imaging industry and a tireless advocate of innovation, he was not only an expert in fostering meaningful relationships but also an inspiration to all who had the honor of working with him. His presence—both professionally and personally—will be deeply missed for decades to come. However, the foundation he laid for our continued partnership with RTMWorld & CR-T will remain steadfast, and we look forward to reaching new milestones and growing further together in the future. I wish him all the best in his future ventures and a healthy and happy life.”
Milestones and Mentorship
Mr. Gibbons became a school principal (courtesy of St George and Sutherland Shire Leader) in Australia at just 22 years old. In 1992, he entered the imaging industry, founding, marketing and managing Laser Advantage, a successful printer cartridge remanufacturing business in Sydney.
By 2000, he was also serving as the Executive and Public Relations Officer for the Australasian Cartridge Remanufacturers’ Association (ACRA Inc.), which supported over 300 remanufacturing businesses across Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji.
Invited by Tony Lee and Sabrina Lo, Gibbons joined Recycling Times in 2011 to enhance its publishing and event strategies. His leadership contributed to the growth of the RemaxWorld Expo, which became the largest event in the global imaging supplies industry.
“My role was to teach, mentor and strategically develop our publishing and events strategy,” Mr. Gibbons shared.
Building a Global Legacy
Mr. Gibbons credits USA-based industry veteran Art Diamond for mentoring him and helping establish worldwide relationships. To honor Diamond’s legacy, Gibbons introduced the annual Diamond Pioneer Award, recognizing industry pioneers and innovators. Through his leadership, Gibbons expanded RemaxWorld Expo’s global reach, spearheading additional events in over a dozen countries, including Spain, Russia, the United States, Egypt, Ghana and Pakistan. In 2018, he developed a new event model and successfully ran big buyer and supplier VIP events in Mexico, Columbia, Argentina, Peru, Brazil, Chile, Nigeria, Kenya, and Dubai.
