The Market Trends the Young Gen Perceives
Ms. Aarushi Rajpal of ProDot, “In general, there is slowdown in the imaging market in India, but our products are selling very well, despite the recession in the market, because of the reputation we built and the strong supply chain we have in the market. We provide products with uncompromising quality and reliability at affordable prices. As you know, we are also one of the few domestic manufacturers of the compatible cartridges in India. We also manufacture most of our other products in India.”

To overcome the situation, we are increasing sales volumes and expanding our channel network into new regions. We have appointed new dealers in Orissa (Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, etc. We import only from the reputed providers in China. Despite shrinking in margins, we will not compromise on quality of the products; we will continue to maintain our standards. Our warehouses in Bhiwandi and Delhi (near Mumbai) are doing well. Our warehouse in Delhi helps us to cater to the customers in North India and whereas the warehouse in Bhiwandi enables us to to serve our customers well in the west, central and south India regions.”
Mr. Piyush Ruiwale of Formujet, “Today, there is tough competition in the market so it’s essential to keep up-to-date with technology, products, the market trends and the consumer preferences. A user purchases a printer once in 3-4 Years but has a regular requirement of consumables throughout the year. Even if one product of bad quality is supplied to the customer, we may lose that customer forever. Hence it is important for our entire team to understand how high the stakes are! New printer models are being launched every month. I try to ensure that we are the first company to release consumables for the latest models as soon as they appear on the market. After, I joined we also widened our product portfolio and expanded horizontally.”
Mr. Kalpesh Patel of Jet Technologies, “As mentioned, the imaging market at present is very slow, competition is high, and margins have gone down significantly. Our revenues are increasing at a rate of 10% but there is no corresponding increase in profits; in fact, profits are shrinking. Right now the conditions are pessimistic. We have to wait and watch until the situation improves before making new plans.”
Mr. Romik Shah of AMI Print, “Despite the shrinking of margins and increasing competition, we are able to do business because we built a strong reputation and positive brand image in the market and people trust our products. We build long-term relationships based on trust and transparency.”
Mr. Aniket Patel of Multi Infomedia, “Currently, the imaging industry is poorly organized with only a few established brands operating in the organized space; most others operate in the grey market or unbranded space. We want i-jet to be a leader in the organized sector with main focus on impeccable quality and high quality service.”
The Changes the Young Gen entrepreneurs want to initiate at present and their future plans
Mr. Akshat Jain of ITDL, “Many cheap and quick toner products keep flooding the market, but we have seen them come and go. We know that the quality wins the race at the end. We maintain world class quality, the ethical trade practices and strong relationships with our partners and customers. Due to the quality we maintain, we are also getting good demand from the international markets. Year on Year our toner exports are also increasing, besides several fold increase in the domestic market. Today, most Indian toner brands want to use domestically manufactured toners instead of importing them from abroad. In the coming years, we are going to upscale our production capacity manifold to meet the increasing demand.”
Mr. Aryan Goel of Aryan, “As for the improvements in the business, I would say it’s more about additions rather than changes; we are keen on expanding our business by increasing the product variety and widening of our customer-base. Since I started working, I have been focusing on adapting to the changes in the industry. I can proudly say that today we are better organized compared many others in the industry. We have always been inclined towards customer satisfaction, and keeping that in mind, we have tied up with the best logistic partners, improved the quality of our packaging and have an aggressive pricing policy. We aim to capture a bigger market share in the coming years. We keep introducing new cartridge models on regular basis to keep up-to-date with the new printers and models as and when they appear in the market. Currently, in association with TTI, we are working on introducing several new toner powders for laser machines. I had set several professional targets for myself in the past, and I am blessed enough that I have been accomplishing all those goals. And as for our Aryan brand, my vision is attaining the highest possible quality and reputation, capturing a bigger market share and creating a socially responsible and environment-friendly brand.”
Ms. Aarushi Rajpal of ProDot, “We are continuously expanding our product portfolio. Our laser toner cartridge manufacturing is going great, and other imaging products are also moving well. We have recently launched Made in India 3-port USB hubs and cables in the IT space. We will bring out more new imaging products and models in the coming months. Our domestically manufactured toner cartridges are selling well, and we will further expand our domestic manufacturing operations in the coming years to manufacture a wide range of products.”
Mr. Piyush Ruiwale of Formujet, “Indigo Prints has always been known for its technical superiority. When I joined the company, despite have the best products, we were not able to educate our partners and the end-users clearly about our products, so I made it a point that communications are improved across different departments and with the partners in the supply channel. After I joined, I laid special emphasis on understanding the actual needs of the customers, and their opinions are taken into consideration. This helped us to develop products that meet the exact requirements of customers.”
Mr. Sagar Shah of Jet Tec Info-Consumables, “Currently, I am focusing on streamlining the product management and the marketing activities. In particular, my present emphasis is on improving partner relationships, because partner morale and cooperation are of utmost importance for the success of the brand. I am also trying to improve the quality of our products in a way that meet the latest requirements of the end users who ultimately give us business.”
Mr. Romik Shah of AMI Print, “Our main focus is still manufacturing and providing dot-matrix ribbons, which forms 25% of our business. But as this technology is getting outdated, the demand and sales are also decreasing in the market. However, many dot-matrix manufacturers have closed down their plants in the last 3 years and their demand has been getting diverted to us. Now, we are one of the few dot-matrix manufacturers in India, so we are still getting a decent demand for our dot-matrix ribbons. As you know, we also provide laser toner powders, laser toner cartridges, printer inks and so on with high quality at affordable prices. We are sure that we will maintain our market share and improve further in the coming months and years.”
Mr. Devansh Sanghavi of PRM, “In the recent years, PRM has experienced significant growth, and my job is to streamline the processes in a way they will enable us to deliver faster and improved services to our customers. To this end, we are making strategic investments in specialized technology and acquiring top talent aimed at enhancing the overall customer-experience.”
Mr. Sanyam Gupta of Goel Imports, “We are waiting for the market to improve. Once the market conditions get better, we will appoint more new partners and venture into new areas where we are still not strong.”
Mr. Aniket Patel of Multi Infomedia, “We are an authorized national distributor for Pantum printer parts. Our current focus is on increasing the sales of Pantum printer parts particularly in the T2 and T3 cities. Our next attention is on increasing the sales of our compatible copier toners under i-Jet brand. My father would be still be active in operating business for another decade or so, which would give me the opportunity to learn more from him. In the coming years, I hope to assume more responsibilities to take the company to the next level in future.”
Mr. Devansh Sanghavi of PRM, “We invest significant amounts of time and money on R&D in order to provide the best and latest products to our customers and continually extend our range of products and models in every category. We have made substantial investments in upgrading our toner powder bottling infrastructure. Our focus remains on providing our valued customers with the best-in-class offerings, exceptional service and better experience.”
The message the Young Gen entrepreneurs want to give
Mr. Aryan Goel of Aryan, “The Young Gen should aim at maintaining the best possible quality. Next, they should be socially and environmentally responsible in their policies and actions, and take care of their employee needs. These things should get priority over profits.”
Ms. Aarushi Rajpal of ProDot, “Young entrepreneurs should focus on quality rather than on making short-term gains. They should take advice from the elders, start with a clear vision and should persist against odds and criticism to succeed and excel in the industry.”
Mr. Piyush Ruiwale of Formujet, “Partner satisfaction is very important for the growth of the company and the brand. If partners feel motivated, they will promote your brand aggressively and that will, in turn, result in the growth of the company. We increased our interactions with our partners and tried to understand their needs and issues. I believe there is a lot of scope in the printer consumables industry for those who are smart, cautious and creative. We want to maintain our position as one of the leading players in the imaging consumables industry and to ensure the best possible customer retention rate. My message to the upcoming entrepreneurs is that there are great possibilities in the imaging industry if they work sincerely for a Long-Term Success instead of short-term benefits.”
Mr. Romik Shah of AMI Print, “The youngsters should observe the elders and leaders when they are doing things, follow their footsteps, and then add own value and ideas cautiously, slowly and steadily. They should closely observe the changing market trends and adapt quickly to the new dynamics.”
Mr. Devansh Sanghavi of PRM, “Young Generation entrepreneurs should focus on winning customer loyalty by offering quality products, best possible service and high customer satisfaction. They should focus on developing a strong brand image on long-term basis than craving for short-term financial benefits.”
Mr. Sanyam Gupta of Goel Imports, “One should learn from the elders as much as they can and as fast as they can, before applying their own ideas. If someone starts things in an impulse, without thorough knowledge about the demand, market trends, customer needs & behavior and the competition, the consequences could be negative.”
Mr. Aniket Patel of Multi Infomedia, “Young Gen should focus on quality and brand rather than falling prey to eagerness to make quick money selling cheap products. They should contribute to expanding the white market segment so that grey market would shrink and the imaging industry gets more organized.”
In a Nutshell
Today, young generation entrepreneurs are better educated, smarter and faster compared to older generations. However, the young generation lacks experience which cannot be substituted by just academic thinking. The younger generation should learn from the experiences of elders and complement that with the education they have to become successful in their businesses and take their companies forward.
